Consumer versus Military GPS Receivers in a JAMMING Environment
by Joe Mehaffey
How do "Consumer Model" GPS receivers compare with Military Grade GPS Receivers as to being JAMMED by enemy actions?
It is highly unlikely that consumer
users need be troubled by this question. However, those selecting
consumer GPS receivers for use by our soldiers overseas need to be
aware that there IS a difference. Military receivers are
protected against jamming by sophisticated design technology not
available to designers of civilian GPS units. Yet, consumer
GPS receivers can be extremely useful in most circumstances to soldiers
and civilians traveling in a war zone. It never hurts to know the
limitations of equipment and this article discusses the advantages of
use of a Military PLGR or DAGR model receivers.
